Deutsche Börse invests $200M in Kraken’s parent

Deutsche Börse invested $200M for a 1.5% stake in Kraken’s parent, valuing it at $13.3B. The deal aims to boost institutional crypto adoption and bridge traditional and digital finance.

Deutsche Börse has invested $200 million in Payward Inc., the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, acquiring a 1.5% stake and valuing the company at approximately $13.3 billion. The transaction, expected to close in the second quarter pending regulatory approval, builds on a partnership formed in December to bridge traditional finance and digital assets. This collaboration aims to accelerate institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies in Europe by introducing new products and services for institutional clients, including trading, custody, settlement, collateral management, and tokenization. The move highlights the increasing involvement of traditional financial institutions in the digital asset space. Kraken, which previously considered an IPO, has reportedly postponed those plans due to market conditions. The investment also reflects a decrease in Kraken’s valuation from $20 billion in a previous funding round last November.
