CME Group expands crypto futures coverage to 75%

CME Group adds Cardano, Chainlink, and Stellar futures, expanding coverage to 75% of the crypto market cap and enhancing access for institutional and retail investors.

CME Group has broadened its cryptocurrency futures offerings by introducing Cardano (ADA), Chainlink (LINK), and Stellar (XLM) contracts. With these additions, CME now covers over 75% of the total crypto market capitalization. The new futures are available in both standard and micro sizes, are cash-settled, and complement existing contracts on Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and XRP. Trading activity in these new contracts has already exceeded $40 million in notional value, attracting participation from global investors. In 2025, CME reported an average daily open interest of around $25 billion and a daily volume of 278,300 contracts, equating to about $12 billion in notional value. This expansion aims to provide institutional and retail investors with enhanced tools for risk management and exposure to digital assets. It reflects the growing demand for regulated crypto derivatives and the increasing institutionalization of the cryptocurrency market. CME also plans to launch Nasdaq CME Crypto Index futures, pending regulatory approval.
