Sberbank to launch crypto wallet after law change

Sberbank will launch a crypto wallet and depository by December 2026, integrating services into its apps. The rollout depends on new Russian legislation and regulatory approvals.

Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, plans to launch a cryptocurrency wallet and digital depository by December 2026. This move follows the anticipated enactment of the “On Digital Currency and Digital Rights” law, expected on September 1. The new services will be integrated into Sberbank Online and SberInvestments apps, enabling clients to access authorized cryptocurrencies and securely store digital assets. The rollout timeline will depend on the final version of the law and app store approvals, with Android users likely to receive updates first. Sberbank is also considering acting as an intermediary for Russians trading on foreign crypto exchanges, pending regulatory approval. This initiative reflects Russia’s shift from restricting crypto to enabling licensed market access. Other major financial institutions are preparing similar services, though unqualified investors will face annual transaction limits. Sberbank’s move marks a significant step in developing Russia’s regulated digital asset market.
