Bitcoin Core Welcomes TheCharlatan as Sixth Trusted Maintainer

Bitcoin Core has added TheCharlatan as its sixth trusted maintainer, expanding the group responsible for approving code changes and reinforcing decentralized governance and software security.

Bitcoin Core has expanded its group of trusted maintainers by appointing TheCharlatan, also known as "sedited," as the sixth keyholder with commit access to the master branch of the Bitcoin Core software. This marks the first addition to the maintainer set since May 2023. TheCharlatan, a computer science graduate from the University of Zurich, specializes in reproducible builds and validation logic, contributing to the separation of validating and non-validating code in Bitcoin’s kernel library. The promotion was strongly supported by at least 20 Core contributors, with no objections, reflecting the community’s commitment to decentralizing authority and maintaining the security and integrity of Bitcoin Core’s development. The current maintainers now include Marco Falke, Gloria Zhao, Ryan Ofsky, Hennadii Stepanov, Ava Chow, and TheCharlatan, who collectively oversee final code approvals for Bitcoin’s main software. This move is seen as a significant step in ensuring the reliability and decentralized governance of the Bitcoin network.
