Vitalik Buterin Unveils Kohaku: Ethereum's Game-Changing Privacy Upgrade
Vitalik Buterin unveiled Kohaku, a modular privacy framework for Ethereum, enabling opt-in confidential transactions, stealth addresses, and compliance features, aiming to make privacy a default, user-friendly property across the ecosystem.
Vitalik Buterin has introduced Kohaku, a modular privacy framework for Ethereum, aiming to make privacy a default and accessible feature for all users. Kohaku enables wallets to offer opt-in confidentiality through cryptographic primitives, such as ephemeral stealth addresses, allowing private transactions while maintaining the option for regulatory compliance. The framework integrates with existing privacy protocols like Railgun and Privacy Pools, providing users with tools to obscure funds and prove innocence. Kohaku’s open-source, decentralized architecture allows developers to build privacy-focused wallets without centralized control, enhancing both security and user experience. The initiative also includes a built-in Helios light client to reduce data exposure and plans for future features like mixnets and zero-knowledge-powered browsers. Kohaku’s dual-mode system allows users to reveal wallet linkages when necessary, balancing privacy with auditability. The Ethereum Foundation has launched the Privacy Cluster to further prioritize privacy, with Kohaku expected to boost DeFi activity, attract institutional capital, and set a new standard for privacy in blockchain technology.
