Coinbase Picks Chainlink CCIP to Bridge $7B in Wrapped Tokens
Coinbase will use Chainlink’s CCIP as the sole bridge for $7B in wrapped assets, enhancing security and interoperability for tokens like cbBTC and cbETH across multiple blockchains.
Coinbase has chosen Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the exclusive bridge for its wrapped assets, valued at approximately $7 billion. This integration covers tokens such as cbBTC, cbETH, cbDOGE, cbLTC, cbADA, and cbXRP, enabling users to transfer these assets securely across multiple blockchain networks, including Base and Solana. Chainlink CCIP’s decentralized, node-based infrastructure replaces previous custom or multisig bridges, aiming to enhance security, reduce risk, and improve interoperability. The protocol leverages audited token pools and multilayered security, including dual decentralized oracle networks and automated monitoring, to prevent exploits and ensure reliability. This move streamlines Coinbase’s cross-chain operations, eliminates fragmentation, and supports the expansion of its wrapped assets into new blockchain ecosystems. The partnership is expected to accelerate the growth of Coinbase’s wrapped tokens and set a new standard for secure, interconnected blockchain environments.
