Starknet unveils Shadow Accounts for DeFi privacy

Starknet launches Shadow Accounts, enabling users to interact with DeFi apps via pseudonymous identities, boosting privacy by hiding links to main wallets while keeping on-chain transparency.

Starknet has introduced Shadow Accounts, a privacy-centric feature built on the STRK20 standard. This allows users to interact with decentralized applications using separate, persistent pseudonymous identities. As a result, activities such as positions, trades, and strategies are kept distinct from users’ main wallet addresses, ensuring these actions are not publicly linked to their primary wallets. Although the balances and transactions of Shadow Accounts remain visible on-chain, the essential connection to the main wallet is hidden. This approach enhances user privacy while maintaining transparency. Developers can easily integrate Shadow Accounts into lending, staking, trading, and other DeFi protocols without significant architectural changes. The rollout of Shadow Accounts is expected across major ecosystem protocols. This development marks a significant step toward practical privacy and greater user trust in DeFi, potentially driving wider adoption on Starknet’s Layer 2 network.
