Ethereum Economic Zone achieves atomic L1-L2 transaction

EEZ executed its first atomic transaction between Ethereum mainnet and L2, enabling secure, seamless cross-layer operations and paving the way for unified liquidity and applications.

The Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) has achieved a major milestone by executing its first atomic transaction between the Ethereum mainnet (L1) and a layer-2 (L2) network. Announced by EEZ contributor Eduardo Antuña, this cross-chain call transferred 0.001 ETH and updated a rollup’s state, demonstrating secure, synchronized operations across layers. Atomic transactions ensure that all related actions on L1 and L2 either succeed together or are fully reverted, minimizing risks from partial execution. The EEZ framework allows rollups and the Ethereum mainnet to interact within a single transaction, removing the need for bridges and addressing challenges like fragmented liquidity and scattered application deployment across L2s. Developed with support from Gnosis, Zisk, and the Ethereum Foundation, this technology marks a significant step toward unified liquidity and seamless cross-layer composability. The first EEZ rollup block on Gnosis Chain is expected by early 2027, promising enhanced scalability, security, and usability for Ethereum.
