Ethereum rushes Prysm update for Sepolia capacity test

Ethereum devs rushed a Prysm update for Sepolia, raising the gas limit to 200 million. This ensures accurate testing of larger blocks ahead of mainnet upgrades.

Ethereum developers released a crucial last-minute update for the Prysm validator client just hours before the Glamsterdam upgrade test on the Sepolia testnet. This update ensures validators automatically produce blocks with the new 200 million gas limit, up from the previous 60 million, aligning with the test’s goal to assess the network’s ability to handle much larger blocks. Sepolia, a test network using tokens with no real value, allows developers to safely rehearse changes before mainnet deployment. Without the Prysm update, some validators would have continued producing smaller blocks, potentially undermining the test’s results. The new Prysm version 7.2.1 incorporates the required configuration, preventing inconsistencies and ensuring accurate simulation of the upcoming mainnet upgrade. This capacity increase aims to enable more transactions and complex activities per block, though it also demands greater performance from validator systems. The outcome of this test will inform future decisions regarding Ethereum’s mainnet capacity.
