Ethereum staking reward burn proposal withdrawn
EIP-8363, proposing a burn of Ethereum staking rewards, was withdrawn from the Hegotà upgrade after community pushback. Issuance policy will be discussed separately, leaving staking yields unchanged for now.
Ethereum's EIP-8363, which proposed burning a portion of validator rewards as staking increased, has been withdrawn from the upcoming Hegotà upgrade. This decision follows strong objections from the technical community, industry stakeholders, and major staking service providers, who argued that a hard fork is not the right venue to change Ethereum's issuance policy. Known as the “Tapered Issuance Burn,” the proposal sparked intense debate on the Ethereum Magicians forum, gathering over 200 comments in just a few weeks. The authors, including Jérome de Tychey, have stated that the topic of issuance policy will now be addressed through a dedicated process, with forums and workshops planned from November to April. For now, staking yields remain unchanged, and no client has implemented the proposed burn. The withdrawal adds uncertainty to Ethereum’s future issuance policy and supply dynamics, with the community awaiting further updates.
