DogeOS testnet brings smart contracts to Dogecoin
DogeOS launches a public testnet for Dogecoin, enabling EVM-compatible smart contracts, DeFi, and gaming with DOGE as gas. Built on ZK-rollup tech, it boosts throughput and expands Dogecoin’s utility.
DogeOS, created by the MyDoge wallet team, has launched its public testnet, marking a major step forward for the Dogecoin ecosystem. This new application layer is EVM-compatible and leverages zero-knowledge rollup (ZK-rollup) technology, enabling Ethereum-style smart contracts and DeFi applications to run on Dogecoin. Transaction fees are paid in DOGE, and the system aims to boost transaction throughput from around 30 to approximately 300 transactions per second. The testnet allows developers to build and test a variety of applications, including trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and games. DogeOS currently uses validators, a trusted execution environment, and a permissioned sequencer for security. Future upgrades are planned to enable native ZK-proof verification on Dogecoin. This launch significantly expands Dogecoin’s utility beyond simple payments, providing the infrastructure needed for real-world applications and strengthening its role in the broader blockchain space.
