Zk.money relaunches for private Ethereum payments

Aztec Labs relaunches zk.money, a privacy-focused wallet on Aztec Network. It enables private DAI payments on Ethereum, with public deposits but hidden transactions. Alpha release includes transaction limits.

Aztec Labs has relaunched zk.money, a privacy-focused, self-custodial wallet on the Aztec Network after a three-year hiatus. The wallet allows users to deposit DAI, USDC, or USDT from Ethereum, with USDC and USDT automatically converted to DAI for use within zk.money. While deposits from Ethereum are publicly visible, all subsequent transactions—including payment amounts, balances, and recipients—are hidden from the public ledger. Users can send and receive funds using readable names or payment links, removing the need for long Ethereum addresses. The Alpha release introduces a $2,500 cap on individual deposits, payments, and withdrawals, and a $50,000 daily deposit limit for all users, reflecting the experimental nature of the technology. The wallet leverages zero-knowledge proofs for privacy and is currently unaudited, which poses some security risks. The relaunch follows significant upgrades to Aztec’s Layer 2 infrastructure, such as private smart contract execution and lower transaction fees, aiming to make private DeFi transactions more accessible.
