OpenAI revenue nears $70B, ChatGPT hits 1B users

OpenAI’s revenue nears $70B, up 70% since Q3 2026, fueled by doubled enterprise sales and 1B weekly ChatGPT users. Anthropic’s run rate also surged, reaching $65B.

OpenAI’s annualized revenue run rate is nearing $70 billion, marking a growth of over 70% since the start of Q3 2026. This surge is largely driven by a doubling of enterprise (B2B) sales and robust adoption across both business and consumer markets. In Q3, OpenAI’s consumer revenue surpassed all new revenue generated in 2025. The company’s product suite, led by ChatGPT, reached 1 billion weekly active users by mid-August 2026, placing it among the few tech platforms to achieve such engagement. On mobile, the ChatGPT app became the fastest ever to reach 1 billion monthly active users by May 2026. Competitor Anthropic’s revenue run rate exceeded $65 billion in July, with its 2025 booked revenue rising twelvefold to $4.6 billion. Both companies are reportedly considering public listings, potentially setting new valuation benchmarks for the AI sector. However, OpenAI does not plan to go public in 2026, citing ongoing security concerns.
