Ethereum unveils Hegotá upgrade: quantum resistance by 2029

Ethereum’s Hegotá upgrade, set for late 2026, prioritizes 62 EIPs, adds censorship resistance, privacy features, and targets quantum resistance by December 2029.

The Ethereum Foundation has published a detailed tier list evaluating 62 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) for the upcoming Hegotá upgrade, slated to begin in late 2026. This collaborative process involved around 60 researchers and experts, generating 397 evaluation comments to help prioritize technical enhancements. Key features of the Hegotá upgrade include fork-choice enforced inclusion lists (FOCIL) to bolster censorship resistance and a new transaction model called "Frames." Privacy-focused improvements, such as Keyed Nonces and Recent Roots, are also planned to enable native support for private transactions. Additionally, the Foundation aims to make Ethereum’s Layer 1 network quantum-resistant by December 2029, aligning with broader industry migration to post-quantum cryptography. Community members are invited to a Reddit AMA on September 16 to discuss the upgrade in detail, highlighting Ethereum’s ongoing commitment to security, scalability, and adaptability.
