Ethereum unveils Hegotá upgrade: quantum resistance by 2029

The Ethereum Foundation has published a detailed tier list evaluating 62 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) for the upcoming Hegotá upgrade, slated to begin in late 2026. This collaborative process involved around 60 researchers and experts, generating 397 evaluation comments to help prioritize technical enhancements. Key features of the Hegotá upgrade include fork-choice enforced inclusion lists (FOCIL) to bolster censorship resistance and a new transaction model called "Frames." Privacy-focused improvements, such as Keyed Nonces and Recent Roots, are also planned to enable native support for private transactions. Additionally, the Foundation aims to make Ethereum’s Layer 1 network quantum-resistant by December 2029, aligning with broader industry migration to post-quantum cryptography.
