Ethereum Hegotá 2027: FOCIL confirmed, 66 EIPs reviewed

Ethereum's 2027 Hegotá upgrade reviews 66 EIPs, with FOCIL confirmed to boost censorship resistance. Other privacy and scalability features are under review, but most proposals may not be included.

Ethereum developers are preparing the Hegotá upgrade, scheduled for 2027, by reviewing 66 candidate Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). These proposals focus on enhancing privacy, censorship resistance, scalability, account abstraction, gas pricing, and validator economics. Currently, FOCIL (Fork-choice enforced Inclusion Lists, EIP-7805) is the only confirmed feature for the upgrade. FOCIL empowers validator committees to enforce the inclusion of pending transactions in blocks, strengthening the network’s resistance to censorship. Other proposals, such as Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), Keyed Nonces (EIP-8250), and Recent Roots for Frame Transactions (EIP-8272), aim to introduce native privacy features, enabling privacy applications to operate without intermediaries. Execution client teams must submit their proposal preferences by September 10. Most of the 66 proposals remain under review and may not be included in the final upgrade. The Hegotá upgrade will follow the Glamsterdam upgrade, planned for late 2026.
