AmericanFortress has unveiled a cryptographic scheme aimed at protecting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana wallets from future quantum computing threats. Notably, this solution does not require users to move funds, rotate keys, or change wallet addresses, ensuring a seamless transition to enhanced security. The proposal, outlined in a technical paper on the Cryptography ePrint Archive, utilizes zero-knowledge proofs generated from a wallet’s original seed phrase to deliver post-quantum security. It is compatible with popular hierarchical deterministic wallets and preserves the existing transaction signing process. Users continue to use their current cryptographic keys, while network nodes verify the new proofs. Currently, the scheme remains a proposal and has not yet undergone peer review or real-world testing. AmericanFortress and industry reports emphasize the urgent need for quantum-resistant solutions, as analyses warn that hundreds of billions in crypto assets could be at risk if quantum computers compromise current cryptographic standards.
