StarkWare unveils Starknet post-quantum security roadmap

StarkWare unveiled a three-phase roadmap for Starknet’s post-quantum security, leveraging its architecture for a smooth migration and urging the industry to adopt quantum-resistant cryptography.

StarkWare has introduced a detailed three-phase roadmap to make Starknet post-quantum secure, aiming to set a new standard among major blockchains. The strategy leverages Starknet’s architecture, which utilizes STARK proofs based on collision-resistant hash functions instead of elliptic-curve cryptography, making it naturally more resilient to quantum attacks. In the first phase, StarkWare will replace Pedersen hashing with BLAKE2 and implement post-quantum signatures such as Falcon-512. The second phase will provide migration tools for legacy contracts, while the third phase will address external dependencies, especially those related to Ethereum. StarkWare stresses that the cryptographic tools for quantum resistance are already available and urges the industry to act now. The company highlights that Starknet’s native account abstraction enables a seamless transition to post-quantum security, avoiding disruptive upgrades, and calls on the blockchain sector to adopt similar measures for future-proofing infrastructure.
