SpaceX secures $60B option to acquire Cursor in AI coding deal

SpaceX has entered a strategic partnership with Cursor, an AI programming startup developed by Anysphere, to co-develop next-generation coding and knowledge work AI. The agreement, confirmed in April 2026, grants SpaceX a $60 billion option to acquire Cursor later this year, or alternatively pay a $10 billion collaboration fee. Cursor, which has surpassed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue and serves 67% of Fortune 500 companies, offers a leading AI-native code editor and a robust developer distribution network. The collaboration will combine Cursor’s product with SpaceX’s Colossus supercomputer, targeting compute power equivalent to one million Nvidia H100 chips, with the goal of building the world’s best coding and knowledge work AI. Cursor’s valuation has soared from $29.3 billion to $50 billion amid strong investor interest. The deal is expected to boost SpaceX’s software and AI capabilities ahead of its anticipated IPO, though risks remain if SpaceX renegotiates or withdraws from the agreement.
