Bitcoin blockchain sees rare two-block reorg

Bitcoin saw a rare two-block reorg as mining pools created parallel chains. Foundry USA's chain prevailed, orphaning AntPool and ViaBTC blocks. The network resolved the event automatically.

The Bitcoin network recently underwent a rare two-block reorganization at block height 941880, resulting in a brief split into two competing chains. On one branch, AntPool and ViaBTC mined blocks 941881 and 941882, while Foundry USA mined its own versions of these blocks on another branch. This tie lasted for an entire block cycle, making the two-block reorg much less common than typical single-block reorganizations. The situation resolved itself when Foundry USA mined three more consecutive blocks, causing its chain to become the main one and rendering the AntPool and ViaBTC blocks orphaned. This event was not an attack or malfunction, but rather a demonstration of Bitcoin's decentralized consensus mechanism working as intended. Foundry USA ultimately mined seven consecutive blocks, highlighting both the competitive nature of mining pools and the robustness of the network's self-correcting protocol.
