Sui unveils Hashi: Native Bitcoin DeFi without wrapping

Sui launches Hashi, enabling native Bitcoin DeFi without wrapping or centralized custody. Supported by major industry players, Hashi aims to unlock dormant BTC capital.

Sui has introduced Hashi, a new infrastructure layer on its blockchain that enables native Bitcoin participation in decentralized finance (DeFi) without wrapping or centralized custody. With Hashi, Bitcoin holders can use their BTC as collateral for lending, borrowing, and yield-generating strategies, addressing the fact that less than 0.5% of Bitcoin’s $1 trillion market cap is currently utilized in DeFi. The protocol leverages decentralized smart contracts and cross-chain verification, reducing trust requirements to the Sui validator set and Hashi’s smart contracts. Institutional partners such as BitGo, Bullish, Erebor Bank, FalconX, Fordefi, and Ledger are expected to provide liquidity, custody, and infrastructure support. Hashi aims to unlock dormant Bitcoin capital, broaden the DeFi ecosystem, and offer secure, transparent collateral management and credit markets. A developer network launch is anticipated soon, making Hashi accessible to both institutional and retail users.
