World and Coinbase unveil toolkit for AI agent verification

World and Coinbase launched AgentKit, letting AI agents prove real human backing via cryptographic verification, aiming to secure automated transactions and reduce fraud as agentic commerce expands.

World, an identity project co-founded by Sam Altman, has introduced AgentKit—a developer toolkit designed to help AI agents prove they are backed by real, verified humans. AgentKit integrates with the x402 protocol, developed by Coinbase and Cloudflare, enabling AI agents to carry cryptographic proof of human verification and autonomously make stablecoin micropayments. The system utilizes World ID, which leverages zero-knowledge proofs to confirm human identity without revealing personal data. This approach addresses concerns about fraud, abuse, and the legitimacy of automated transactions as AI agents increasingly handle tasks such as online shopping and bookings. Platforms can use AgentKit to distinguish between legitimate automated purchases and potential fraudulent activity, enforcing limits based on a single verified person. The initiative responds to the rapid rise of agentic commerce, projected to reach $3–5 trillion by 2030, with AI agents potentially accounting for up to 25% of U.S. e-commerce.
