OpenAI unveils GPT-5.4: Advanced AI for finance

OpenAI launched GPT-5.4, its most advanced AI, with new financial tools, Excel and Sheets integration, and a 1M token context window, amid a user boycott over a Pentagon contract.

OpenAI has unveiled GPT-5.4, its most advanced AI model yet, introducing three variants: GPT-5.4, GPT-5.4 Thinking, and GPT-5.4 Pro. Designed for professional and enterprise users, the model offers a context window of up to 1 million tokens and improved token efficiency, setting new standards for technical performance. GPT-5.4 integrates directly with financial data platforms like FactSet and Third Bridge, and is accessible within Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. This streamlines financial research and investment analysis, positioning OpenAI as a direct competitor to Anthropic’s Claude in the financial services sector. The launch occurred amid a public relations crisis tied to a controversial Pentagon contract, sparking a significant user boycott. Despite this, GPT-5.4’s enhanced reasoning, coding, and agentic workflows are expected to deliver faster, more efficient AI agents and reduced token consumption for businesses.
