Ethereum developers have unveiled a privacy-focused framework for AI chatbot interactions, aiming to protect user identities while ensuring payment verification and abuse prevention. The system, proposed by Vitalik Buterin and Davide Crapis, utilizes zero-knowledge proofs and smart contracts, allowing users to deposit funds once and make thousands of API calls anonymously. This approach replaces traditional identity-based access methods, such as email or credit card logins, which can expose users to profiling, tracking, and legal risks. While blockchain payments offer more privacy, they are often slow, costly, and publicly traceable. The new model uses cryptographic mechanisms to prove solvency and enable paid requests without revealing user identities or linking individual requests. Abuse is deterred through double staking and slashing, punishing malicious behavior without compromising honest users' privacy. This initiative aims to balance privacy, efficiency, and security for both users and AI service providers.
