Lighter EVM launch: Ethereum compatibility and DeFi growth

Lighter EVM brings Ethereum compatibility, letting developers deploy DeFi apps and smart contracts on Lighter’s platform, expanding it from trading to a full DeFi ecosystem with greater efficiency and security.

Lighter has unveiled Lighter EVM, a significant upgrade that introduces full Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility to its platform. This marks a pivotal evolution from its roots as a high-speed trading engine to a comprehensive decentralized finance (DeFi) infrastructure. With Lighter EVM, developers can now deploy general-purpose smart contracts and decentralized applications using familiar Ethereum tools. These apps integrate directly with Lighter’s spot and perpetual markets, enabling more efficient capital use across trading and DeFi, reducing fragmentation, and enhancing composability. Built as a Layer 2 rollup, Lighter EVM executes transactions off the main Ethereum chain while posting data back to it, boosting throughput and lowering costs without sacrificing security. Collaborating with Axiom, Lighter incorporates advanced zero-knowledge proof verification for real-time performance and minimal fees. The platform also plans to integrate major DeFi protocols, enabling lending, swapping, and asset management apps to leverage its liquidity and trading infrastructure, signaling a major shift in both its strategy and the broader Layer 2 ecosystem.
