SBI and Startale Unveil Regulated Yen Stablecoin for 2026 Launch

SBI Holdings and Startale Group will launch a regulated yen-pegged stablecoin for global settlement in Q2 2026, aiming to connect Japan to onchain finance and support cross-border asset flows.

SBI Holdings and Startale Group have announced a partnership to launch a fully regulated, yen-pegged stablecoin aimed at global settlement and institutional use, with a targeted launch in the second quarter of 2026 pending regulatory approval. The stablecoin will be issued and redeemed by Shinsei Trust & Banking, with circulation managed by SBI VC Trade, and Startale leading technology development, including smart contracts and security. The initiative is designed to connect Japan to onchain finance, facilitate cross-border tokenized asset flows, and provide a programmable digital yen for global settlement. This project aligns with Japan’s updated regulatory framework, allowing banks and licensed trust institutions to issue fiat-pegged tokens, and is part of the Payment Innovation Project supporting other yen stablecoin pilots. The stablecoin will complement Startale’s USDSC dollar stablecoin and support a 24/7 tokenized stock exchange. The collaboration aims to accelerate the integration of digital financial services with traditional finance, enhance cross-border payments, and position Japan competitively in the global digital currency landscape.
