Tether’s USDT returns to Bitcoin with Utexo

Tether’s USDT returns to Bitcoin via Utexo, enabling private transfers, BTC swaps, and lending. Utexo uses RGB and UTXO models, with Lightning Network support planned.

Tether’s USDT stablecoin is making a return to the Bitcoin network this month through the Tether-backed project Utexo, marking its first native presence on Bitcoin in over a decade. Utexo will enable private USDT transfers, direct swaps between BTC and USDT, and BTC-backed lending, all while keeping most transaction data off Bitcoin’s public ledger by leveraging the RGB protocol and UTXO model. The platform has secured a commercial license to issue USDT on Bitcoin and will offer APIs, SDKs, and cloud infrastructure for exchanges, wallets, and payment providers. Following its initial launch on the Bitcoin mainnet, Utexo plans to expand USDT support to the Lightning Network for faster payments. Additionally, Utexo will blacklist UTXOs linked to illicit activity instead of freezing addresses. This initiative is expected to enhance Bitcoin’s payment infrastructure, broaden its role in decentralized finance, and increase stablecoin utility on the network.
