Western Union unveils Solana-powered Stablecard

Western Union and Rain launched Stablecard, a Solana-based wallet and Visa card, enabling users in 37 countries to receive, store, and spend USDPT stablecoins globally, with plans to expand to 60+ markets.

Western Union has introduced Stablecard, a digital wallet and Visa card developed in partnership with Rain and powered by Solana blockchain technology. This innovative product allows users in 37 countries to receive international money transfers as USDPT, a stablecoin, and spend or withdraw funds at any Visa merchant or ATM worldwide. Targeting regions with high remittance activity and unstable local currencies, Stablecard aims to expand to over 60 markets by the end of the year. Users can hold balances in dollar equivalents, transact globally, and move USDPT to and from external wallets and exchanges, enhancing flexibility and accessibility. By integrating blockchain with traditional money transfer systems, Western Union seeks to reduce the need for pre-funded capital, improve capital efficiency, and broaden access to digital financial services. Solana was selected for its fast, low-cost transactions, supporting the mainstream adoption of stablecoins. The Stablecard app is available on major mobile platforms and can be linked to Apple Pay and Google Pay.
