Sony Bank receives OCC nod for stablecoin trust launch

Sony Bank gains OCC approval to launch Connectia Trust, a U.S. trust bank set to issue a dollar-backed stablecoin in 2027 for digital asset payments.

Sony Bank has received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Connectia Trust, a national trust bank in the United States. With an initial capital of $40 million, Connectia Trust aims to issue and manage a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, pending final regulatory approval. Scheduled to launch in 2027, Connectia Trust will support Sony Financial Group’s digital asset initiatives. The stablecoin is expected to facilitate payments for games, subscriptions, and digital content within Sony’s ecosystem. This development positions Sony among a growing number of traditional firms pursuing OCC trust bank charters, highlighting the increasing interest of established companies in the digital asset and stablecoin markets.
