KRWQ stablecoin launches on Solana, boosting KRW liquidity
KRWQ, a Korean won-pegged stablecoin, is now on Solana, boosting KRW liquidity for DeFi and institutional trading, but remains unavailable to South Korean investors due to regulatory issues.
KRWQ, a stablecoin pegged to the Korean won, has expanded to the Solana blockchain following its initial listing on EDX Markets. Developed by IQ in partnership with Frax, KRWQ aims to enhance access to KRW-denominated liquidity for both decentralized finance (DeFi) and institutional trading platforms. By integrating with Solana, KRWQ leverages the network’s high throughput and low transaction costs, enabling rapid settlements and supporting a range of trading activities, including perpetual futures, onchain FX, arbitrage, and cross-margin trading. This expansion seeks to consolidate significant daily KRW spot and offshore NDF market volumes, addressing the previous lack of robust KRW liquidity in crypto-native markets. The move also underscores growing demand for non-USD stablecoins and is expected to increase Asian participation in onchain markets. However, KRWQ remains inaccessible to South Korean investors due to ongoing regulatory considerations under the Digital Asset Basic Act.
