Rain and Mastercard expand stablecoin card offerings
Rain partners with Mastercard to launch stablecoin-backed cards, expanding beyond Visa. The move enables on-chain settlement and supports Rain’s global growth in crypto payments.
Rain, a stablecoin infrastructure startup valued at $1.95 billion, has partnered with Mastercard to expand its card offerings beyond its previous Visa-only model. This collaboration enables Rain to issue Mastercard-backed credit and prepaid cards, supporting stablecoin-based settlements across Mastercard’s global network. Enterprises can now integrate stablecoin settlement into their existing payment systems without major changes, as Rain manages on-chain treasury, conversion, and settlement processes in the background. The partnership positions Rain to serve larger institutions and meet the growing demand for blockchain-integrated payment solutions. Rain’s infrastructure, purpose-built for stablecoin card programs, allows for rapid geographic expansion through a single integration. The deal is part of Mastercard’s broader stablecoin strategy, which includes acquiring infrastructure firm BVNK and expanding its Crypto Partner Program. Rain recently raised $250 million in Series C funding, further strengthening its position in the evolving crypto payments sector.
