Western Union unveils Solana stablecoin and stable card

Western Union will launch its Solana-based stablecoin USDPT for agent settlements, introduce a Digital Asset Network, and release a USD stable card for global spending.

Western Union is preparing to launch its Solana-based stablecoin, USDPT, next month. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to incorporate blockchain technology into its financial infrastructure. USDPT, backed by the US dollar, will primarily facilitate settlements between Western Union and its agents, aiming to modernize and speed up cross-border payments while reducing reliance on traditional systems like SWIFT. In addition to USDPT, Western Union will introduce a Digital Asset Network. This network will connect crypto wallets with Western Union’s extensive retail and agent network, enabling users to convert digital assets into local currency seamlessly. Later this year, the company plans to launch a USD stable card in multiple markets. This card will allow consumers to hold and spend stablecoins globally, marking a significant shift in Western Union’s approach to digital assets and strengthening its position in the global financial transfer landscape.
