Klarna Unveils KlarnaUSD Stablecoin to Revolutionize Payments

Klarna is launching KlarnaUSD, a dollar-backed stablecoin on Stripe and Paradigm’s Tempo blockchain, aiming to cut cross-border payment costs and speed up transactions. The mainnet launch is planned for 2026, with broader integration to follow.

Klarna has announced the launch of KlarnaUSD, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin built on the Tempo blockchain, developed by Stripe and Paradigm. The stablecoin, currently in testing and set for a mainnet launch in 2026, is designed to streamline cross-border payments by offering faster, cheaper, and more predictable transactions for both consumers and merchants. KlarnaUSD will be fully integrated into Klarna’s payment stack, supporting online and in-store transactions, and aims to reduce the $120 billion in annual global cross-border payment fees. The stablecoin is issued through Open Issuance by Bridge, Stripe’s stablecoin infrastructure, allowing Klarna to focus on payments rather than trading. KlarnaUSD will initially be used for internal processes, merchant payouts, and settlements, with plans to expand to broader consumer use. Klarna, serving 114 million customers and processing $112 billion in annual volume, sees this move as a significant step in its crypto journey, deepening its partnership with Stripe and positioning itself as a competitor to traditional payment networks. Regulatory frameworks in the U.S. and Europe are expected to support the rollout, and further partnerships are anticipated.
