Swiss banks launch sandbox for franc-pegged stablecoin

Six Swiss banks and Swiss Stablecoin AG launch a sandbox to test a Swiss franc-pegged stablecoin, aiming to boost digital finance innovation until 2026.

Six major Swiss banks—UBS, PostFinance, Sygnum, Raiffeisen, ZKB, and BCV—have partnered with Swiss Stablecoin AG to launch a secure digital sandbox. This environment is designed to test the potential uses of a stablecoin pegged to the Swiss franc. The initiative, recently announced, will remain in a controlled testing phase until 2026. It is open to participation from other banks, companies, and interested institutions, encouraging broad industry collaboration. The project aims to explore blockchain applications linked to the Swiss franc, test digital financial products under realistic conditions, and strengthen Switzerland’s digital currency ecosystem. Currently, no regulated stablecoin with broad national application exists for the Swiss franc. The sandbox will help banks gain operational experience and assess practical applications, fostering innovation and security in the Swiss digital finance sector.
