Sonic Labs unveils USSD: Treasury-backed stablecoin

Sonic Labs launches USSD, a stablecoin backed 1:1 by tokenized U.S. Treasuries from BlackRock, WisdomTree, and Superstate. USSD is mintable across 10+ blockchains and features zero-fee minting.

Sonic Labs has introduced USSD, a stablecoin on the Sonic blockchain, fully backed 1:1 by tokenized U.S. Treasury assets from leading institutions such as BlackRock, WisdomTree, and Superstate. Built on Frax Finance’s frxUSD infrastructure, USSD is designed to deliver stable, transparent, and permissionless liquidity within the Sonic DeFi ecosystem. Users can mint USSD through non-custodial smart contracts with zero fees by depositing supported assets, including USDC, USDT, PYUSD, and tokenized Treasuries. The stablecoin is accessible across more than ten blockchains via LayerZero’s cross-chain technology, enhancing both interoperability and accessibility. USSD aims to anchor liquidity, support trading, lending, payments, and settlement, and strengthen Sonic’s DeFi ecosystem. The launch comes as Sonic’s network metrics have declined over the past year, with total value locked and token prices dropping. USSD is positioned as a strategic move to reverse this trend and establish a reliable on-chain dollar for Sonic.
