Tether Gold (XAU₮) has solidified its dominance in the gold-backed stablecoin sector, now representing about 60% of the total supply. The market capitalization for gold-backed tokens surged from $1.3 billion to over $4 billion in 2025, driven by record gold prices surpassing $5,000 per ounce and increased demand for real-world asset tokenization amid economic and geopolitical uncertainty. In Q4 2025, Tether Holdings Ltd. made a landmark acquisition of 27 metric tons of gold, valued at approximately $4.4 billion. This move marked one of the largest single-quarter gold purchases by a private entity, significantly impacting Tether's reserve strategy. By December 31, 2025, Tether Gold reported 520,089.350 fine troy ounces of physical gold backing 520,089.300 XAU₮ tokens, maintaining a strict 1:1 ratio. The gold is stored in Swiss LBMA vaults, with 409,217.64 tokens sold and 110,871.66 available for sale, highlighting Tether Gold's growing influence in bridging traditional assets and digital finance.
