Crypto burglary in Mont-de-Marsan: couple assaulted

A couple in Mont-de-Marsan were assaulted by masked men demanding cryptocurrency. The attackers fled with a laptop and phone. The couple’s son, active in crypto, is now under police protection.

On the night of October 21–22 in Mont-de-Marsan, three masked men broke into the home of a couple in their sixties at around 3 a.m. The intruders woke the couple, restrained them with duct tape and zip ties, and demanded access to cryptocurrency. During the ordeal, the 63-year-old husband was struck on the head with a wrench. The attackers escaped with a laptop and a mobile phone. After the assailants left, the couple managed to free themselves and contacted emergency services. They were taken to the hospital for medical examinations. Investigators recovered the tools used in the attack at the scene. Authorities suspect the couple’s son, who is active in the cryptocurrency sector and lives elsewhere, may have been the intended target. He has been placed under police protection. This incident is the second similar attack in the Landes region since August, underscoring a rise in burglaries targeting cryptocurrency holders.
