Upbit delists BONK over security; Bithumb retains token

Upbit will delist Bonk (BONK) on September 7, 2026, over security concerns, causing a sharp price drop. Meanwhile, Bithumb has removed BONK from its delisting watchlist, keeping it available for trading.

South Korean crypto exchange Upbit has announced it will delist Bonk (BONK), a Solana-based meme coin, on September 7, 2026. The decision comes after unresolved security incidents and insufficient disclosure of material information. BONK/KRW and BONK/USDT trading pairs will be affected, with all open orders canceled at the time of delisting. Withdrawals will remain available until October 7, 2026. This move follows a month-long review after BONK was designated a cautionary asset due to a $20 million governance attack on its treasury. As a result, BONK’s price has dropped sharply, reaching its lowest level since November 2023. In contrast, Bithumb, another major South Korean exchange, has removed BONK from its delisting watchlist, signaling a more favorable view of the token’s compliance and trading stability. These differing decisions highlight that exchanges assess digital assets independently, and delisting on one platform does not guarantee removal from others. The situation introduces uncertainty for BONK holders and may affect the token’s liquidity and market presence in South Korea.
