Sam Blackshear leaves Mysten Labs for Anthropic to focus on AI security, staying on as advisor to Mysten, Sui, and the Move Foundation. EvanWeb3 assumes technical leadership at Mysten Labs.

Sam Blackshear, co-founder and CTO of Mysten Labs and creator of the Move programming language, has announced his departure from Mysten Labs. He will join Anthropic to focus on defensive security research related to artificial intelligence. Blackshear cited the evolving landscape between offensive and defensive security as a key reason for his move. Despite stepping down, Blackshear will remain an advisor to Mysten Labs, the Sui ecosystem, and the Move Foundation, which is currently being established. Technical leadership at Mysten Labs will now be handled by EvanWeb3. Anthropic is ramping up its defensive cyber research as advanced AI models increasingly help uncover software vulnerabilities.
