BitGo unveils quantum-safe tools for Bitcoin custody

BitGo launched quantum-safe tools for institutional Bitcoin wallets, adding new risk controls, UTXO management, and a post-quantum MPC simulation to address quantum-related risks.

BitGo has introduced a suite of quantum-safe and quantum-protection tools for institutional Bitcoin wallets. These tools are designed to help institutions assess, manage, and reduce risks associated with the future threat of quantum computing. Built on BitGo’s multi-signature architecture, the suite features a Quantum Risk Score, workflows for moving funds from exposed addresses, and an innovative UTXO selection method that groups and prioritizes coins by address to minimize public key exposure from partial spends. BitGo has filed a provisional patent for this method. However, these protections do not extend to address types that reveal the public key from the outset, such as Taproot or Pay-to-Public-Key, which require separate solutions. In addition, BitGo partnered with Silence Laboratories to complete what is described as the first post-quantum MPC transaction simulation by a regulated custodian, utilizing the ML-DSA algorithm. While quantum computing does not currently pose a practical threat to Bitcoin, BitGo’s initiative demonstrates a proactive approach and reflects growing industry concern about future-proofing digital asset custody.
