CFTC Unveils Innovation Committee to Oversee Crypto and Prediction Markets

The CFTC has formed the Innovation Advisory Committee to address digital assets and prediction markets, modernize regulations, and ensure oversight of emerging financial technologies like AI and blockchain.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has established the Innovation Advisory Committee, replacing the former Technology Advisory Committee, to address the rapid evolution of financial technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud computing. This committee will focus on digital assets and prediction markets, aiming to modernize regulatory frameworks and ensure fair, safe, and trustworthy markets. The committee includes members from the CEO Innovation Council, industry leaders, academia, regulators, and public interest groups, with public nominations open for additional members. The CFTC seeks to better understand and oversee digital financial systems, including blockchain-based assets and platforms for betting on future events, as these areas face increased scrutiny over issues like insider trading. The committee will provide recommendations on regulatory challenges and help the CFTC adapt its market structure regulations to the changing landscape of financial services, derivatives, and commodities. This initiative signals the agency’s commitment to keeping pace with technological innovation and maintaining effective oversight in emerging markets.
