Pakistan Opens Doors: Binance and HTX Get Crypto License Nod
Pakistan has granted Binance and HTX preliminary approval to seek full crypto licenses, marking a major step toward regulated digital asset services and compliance with AML and FATF standards in the country.
Pakistan has granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to cryptocurrency exchanges Binance and HTX, allowing them to begin the process of obtaining full crypto licenses in the country. The Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) issued these certificates as part of a phased approach to regulating digital assets, focusing on compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards. With the NOCs, Binance and HTX can register as reporting entities in the Financial Monitoring Unit’s goAML system, collaborate with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to establish local subsidiaries, and prepare their applications for full virtual asset service provider (VASP) licenses. PVARA, which uses artificial intelligence for regulatory processes, aims to foster a secure and compliant environment for digital asset services. The move signals Pakistan’s commitment to integrating digital assets into its financial system, supporting innovation while ensuring regulatory oversight. The country, with a large crypto user base and significant transaction volumes, is shifting from regulatory ambiguity to a structured framework for digital currencies.
