NBA partners with Kalshi, Polymarket and CFTC

The NBA named Kalshi and Polymarket as preferred prediction markets and signed an MOU with the CFTC for oversight and integrity, amid legal disputes over market regulation.

The NBA has announced partnerships with Kalshi and Polymarket, designating them as its preferred prediction market platforms. These agreements grant the platforms access to official league data and branding, enhancing their offerings for NBA-related markets. Simultaneously, the NBA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to ensure regulatory oversight, information sharing, and integrity protections. Key measures include restrictions on contract types, bans on NBA and team staff trading on league games, and mandatory reporting of suspicious activity by the platforms. These steps align the NBA with other major leagues like MLB and NHL, which have also collaborated with the CFTC, while the NFL has declined similar arrangements. The partnerships come amid ongoing legal disputes over the regulation of sports prediction contracts, with the NBA stating it will defer to the courts on these regulatory questions.
