SEC FY2027 priorities: Tokenization and compliance focus
SEC FY2027 exam priorities highlight compliance, fraud prevention, and risk monitoring. Tokenization and "super intelligence" are new focus areas. No new tokenization rules; crypto is not a standalone priority.
On October 23, 2026, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced its Fiscal Year 2027 examination priorities. The Division of Examinations will focus on compliance, fraud prevention, and risk monitoring, with a strong emphasis on investor protection. Tokenization has emerged as a key area of focus, alongside Treasury clearing reforms and new technologies such as "super intelligence"—a term now replacing "artificial intelligence" following a recent executive order. While tokenization is now considered a high-risk area for market infrastructure, especially at clearing agencies, cryptocurrencies are still not listed as a standalone examination category. The SEC will assess practices among investment advisers, broker-dealers, private funds, and other market participants, concentrating on operational controls and evolving risks. Although these priorities have been announced, some sources note that an official FY2027 priorities report was not yet available in SEC publications as of the announcement date.
