Coinbase launches regulated crypto derivatives in Canada

Coinbase debuts regulated crypto derivatives in Canada, offering 23 futures contracts with up to 10x leverage to eligible institutional investors.

Coinbase has launched regulated crypto derivatives trading for eligible Canadian investors, marking the first time a major regulated exchange offers such products in Canada. The platform features 23 perpetual and dated futures contracts on assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and 20 other digital tokens. Additionally, commodity and index futures tied to gold, silver, oil, and the COIN50 index are available. These contracts, provided through Coinbase Financial Markets, offer up to 10x leverage and nano-sized contracts, lowering capital requirements for participants. Access is limited to sophisticated and institutional investors, in line with Canadian regulations, and products are offered under an international exemption. This initiative addresses the previous lack of regulated crypto derivatives in Canada, aiming to increase institutional participation and trading activity. It also supports the integration of crypto assets into traditional financial markets.
