Tyler Williams, a senior U.S. Treasury official overseeing digital asset policy and principal adviser to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, has resigned after approximately 17 months in office. Williams joined the Treasury in early 2025, following his previous role as head of policy at Galaxy Digital. During his tenure, Williams played a key role in advancing the Trump administration’s digital asset agenda. He contributed to the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act and worked to align the department’s efforts with the administration’s goal of positioning the U.S. as a leader in digital asset innovation. His departure comes as Congress remains divided over the CLARITY Act, with the bill stalled due to disagreements over ethics provisions for federal officials. Williams is expected to return to the private sector, continuing a trend of crypto policy experts leaving government amid ongoing regulatory uncertainty.
