Bitget exits Japan: account restrictions from 2026

Bitget will exit Japan, halting new registrations and imposing account restrictions from November 1, 2026. All open positions will be closed after December 31 due to new regulations.

Bitget has announced a full withdrawal from the Japanese market in response to regulatory requirements and repeated warnings from Japan's financial authorities. The crypto trading platform has stopped accepting new registrations from Japanese residents and will begin imposing account restrictions starting November 1, 2026. Japanese users must complete Level 2 identity verification, including address confirmation, by November 1, 2026, to avoid restrictions. Accounts that do not complete this process will be classified as Japanese resident accounts and will face mandatory liquidation of open positions after December 31, 2026. Bitget's exit follows Japan's reclassification of cryptocurrencies as financial instruments and the introduction of stricter penalties for unregistered operations. The company will provide affected users with further instructions on verification and asset withdrawal procedures.
