Circle secures NYDFS trust charter for USDC oversight

Circle secures NYDFS trust charter, strengthening USDC’s regulatory compliance and expanding its presence as stablecoin adoption rises.

Circle has received a limited purpose trust charter from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) for its subsidiary, Circle Internet Trust Company LLC, now known as Circle New York Trust. This achievement enhances Circle’s compliance framework and oversight for its USDC stablecoin, placing the company under New York’s strict crypto regulatory regime. The approval builds on Circle’s longstanding relationship with NYDFS, which began in 2015 when it became the first company to obtain a BitLicense. With this new charter, Circle expands its regulated presence, supporting greater safety, transparency, and customer protection. The NYDFS public register confirms the charter was granted in July 2026, formalizing Circle’s supervised status for virtual currency activities in the state. Circle stated that this move aligns with its commitment to compliance and positions USDC within a respected regulatory framework.
