BitPay secures Dutch MiCA license for EU crypto expansion

BitPay has secured a Dutch MiCA license, enabling regulated crypto and stablecoin payment services across the EU and supporting cross-border operations.

BitPay has obtained a full Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets. This approval, granted to BitPay B.V. in the Netherlands, establishes a regulated foundation for expanding cryptocurrency and stablecoin payment services across all 27 EU member states. With this license, BitPay can now offer payment processing, cross-border transfers, and consumer-facing crypto services, as well as facilitate partner-provided buying, selling, and swapping of digital assets. The MiCA framework replaces fragmented national regulations with a unified standard, streamlining compliance and encouraging broader adoption of crypto payments. BitPay’s new regulatory status removes cross-border compliance barriers, enabling European merchants and corporations to adopt secure settlements, particularly with stablecoins like USDC. The company aims to integrate these regulated payment gateways into local merchants and enhance the user experience, marking a significant step in expanding its presence and services throughout the European Union.
