Coinbase secures UK license to offer stocks and derivatives
Coinbase has obtained a UK MiFID license, enabling it to offer stocks and derivatives alongside crypto. UK users can now trade equities and perpetual futures, marking a major product expansion.
Coinbase has secured a UK MiFID investment services license, allowing it to expand beyond cryptocurrency trading into traditional financial products such as equities and derivatives. With this regulatory approval, institutional and advanced traders in the UK can now access perpetual futures across crypto, equities, and commodities. For the first time, retail users will also be able to trade stocks on Coinbase. This new license complements Coinbase’s existing UK e-money license and crypto registration, further strengthening its position as a comprehensively regulated market participant. The move marks the largest expansion of Coinbase’s UK product suite since entering the market. Coinbase’s latest development is a significant step toward its goal of becoming an “everything exchange,” where users can access multiple financial products through a single account. It also positions the company for growth ahead of the UK’s upcoming full crypto regulatory regime set for 2027, highlighting its strategy to integrate traditional and digital financial services on one platform.
