Binance exits EU crypto market as Spain enforces MiCA deadline

Binance will end EU crypto services by July 1, 2026, after withdrawing its MiCA licence bid. Spain’s regulator confirmed no deadline extensions for unlicensed crypto firms, requiring them to exit or transfer clients.

Binance will cease all crypto-asset services for European Union customers starting July 1, 2026, after withdrawing its application for a licence under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regime. The exchange informed users in multiple countries that it cannot secure a MiCA licence by the June 30 deadline, meaning trading in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies will end for affected EU residents. Binance assured customers that their funds remain safe and can be withdrawn at any time. Spain’s securities regulator has ruled out any extensions or waivers for crypto firms that fail to obtain MiCA licences before the deadline, requiring unlicensed platforms to wind down EU operations and transfer clients to licensed providers. The CNMV emphasized there will be no exceptions, and regulators are working with affected companies to ensure a smooth transition. Authorities are monitoring how firms manage customer assets during this period, requiring clear exit plans to protect investors. From July 1, unlicensed platforms will be unable to process new transactions for investors, and users will lose MiCA’s regulatory protections.
